June 2011  hosted our first ever attempt at a new “quarter night” fundraiser. We had over 100 items to raffle off with an infinate range of brick-&-brack, nick-nack, man-cave, kid toy things to go around. Our gracious host had plenty to say about the things for raffle, at an amazing pace. The sounds of quarters were in the air, with one table exeption. (Ha-Ha if you read this). And just like at any raffle, we even had our own lucky table, that seemily walked away with most. (They came in an pickup-truck). This is a fundraiser not to miss next year. Remember…I got this at St Joseph’s for only a quarter!!

July came and went very fast at the parish. The tailgating party went off with great sucess. The weather was a bit uncertain, but held off non-the-less. The parking lot was full of parishoners, family and friends. The smells of BBQ were abundant, as well as the “polish steaks”. Tents, chairs, and tri-cycles were everywhere in the lot. We had a new parking lot attendant who was taking no prisoners. (Charles was his name). The fireworks themselves, were the best Stratford had put on in a long time. It seemed to last forever, but finally the  finale came, and that didn’t end quickly either. A great time was had by all, and certainly will bring just as many next year.

Next up was the Evening of Music event. This is the second year for this event, and it was almost called it before it began. Fortunatly, we pushed on, and that turned out to be a great descision. Don Peluso and Jack Lynn brought back the sounds of the “Rat Pack” for our dancing and listening enjoyment. Our voulenteers put together an amazing venitian table full of homemade desserts for all to enjoy. Door prizes, raffles, and even a 50/50 were there for the taking. We even had gold-diggers in the house. Three hours of fun and music were the call of the evening. Check out the pictures to get the jist.

I wonder if the bottle of wine had anything to do with this picture?

September brought about a very special event at St. Joseph’s. Our church and hall was honored to host an Eagle Scout court of honor for fellow parishioner Curtis Cocco. Curtis has received the highest rank in scouting, which is certainly no easy task.  His Eagle project was an outdoor classroom for the middle school from which he came from. It turned out to be an ambitious project, that needed a good amount of resources as well. He ended up managing it all.

Eagles can soar….and apparently pack the house too!

All that jabber made everyone hungry.

St. Joseph’s support group.

All kidding and ad-libbing aside, it was an amazing ceremony, and well put together. The last Eagles to fly-thru our parish were Scott and Brian Krasko some time ago. Curtis…you did us proud, and it is an amazing achievement.

The very next day, St. Joseph’s hall was reconfigured for yet another event. The women of the parish put together a surprise baby shower for Geraldine Gitner, (the pastor’s wife). It was a wonderful time, as the talents of the St’ Joseph’s women went on display yet again.

Gifts and well wishes were certainly not in short supply.

Fr. (Daddy) Michal wasn’t missing this event.

A  thank you wave from the appreciative Geraldine, (or is the spotlight too bright?)

Not to be outdone, or a moment too soon, On October 12th, Geraldine gave birth to Claire Gitner. Now Father Michal will be called Daddy. Congratulations to the Gitner family.(Pics to follow)

October 15th brought about an indoor tag sale ran by Joe and Jane Pelland, (maybe we should have put her name first). The hall was sold out of tables, and we even had to turn away a few last-minute prospects as well. A big turnout of people came from mid morning thru mid afternoon. The Kitchen served up hot-dogs and Kielbasa sandwiches. The price and quality couldn’t be beat on that. It seemed liked everyone left with something.

Busy bees buzzing in the hall.

The kitchen crew… (next time we’ll say cheese instead of sandwiches for the camera)

The foreman hard at work…or is that hardly working?  (BTW-he bought that chair home with him)

Freinds were hanging out together.

Just a friendly thank you to all of the volunteers who give of their time to help out at these events.  None of these events could run smoothly, or at all, without your help.
