Our Symbols
Our Parish Symbol:
At the Special Parish Meeting on May 21, 2006, we adopted the symbol depicted below for our parish.
We also adopted the following slogan or motto for the parish: "Faith in Jesus Christ with Worship, Fellowship and Democracy.” (There is also a centennial version of the symbol and motto.)
The meaning of each part (listed below in bold) of both the symbol and the motto is explained as follows:
The Cross — The symbol of Christianity; it is the symbol of our Faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a faith that is Apostolic and Catholic in doctrine and tradition.
The Chalice and Host — The Catholic Church symbol of the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ; it is the symbol of our Worship of God with the Eucharist as the focal point and central act of our worship in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
The Grouping of Diverse People — It is a contemporary way to use various shadow figures to symbolize the diversity of gender, age, race and ability; it is the symbol of our Fellowship, spiritual and social, which is open to all people seeking to be like-minded and one in Christ.
The People Balanced on a Fulcrum — It is a modern symbol of democracy and at the base of the Cross and the Chalice and Host it is a symbol of Democracy in the PNC Church, which has a constitutional and representative form of government; it is the symbol of our commitment to work together for equality, justice and the common good in the Church and society.
The Carpenter’s Square and Lily — It is the ancient Church symbol for St. Joseph, who was a carpenter in Nazareth, the stepfather of Jesus and the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary; he is our patron saint, who is our model of faith, justice, courage and the work ethic.
